THE DEATH OF AMANDA PEARCE: Resident of near Waterloo passes away at home of
daughter in Elkhart - Funeral at Butler. Mrs. Amanda Susan Pearce, 81 years of age,
of near Waterloo, widow of the late Charles Pearce, died at the home of her daughter,
Mrs Cora Beerer of Elkhart, at 1:35 AM Sunday of complications. Mrs
Pearce had been in ailing health for several months and had been bedfast for
the past five weeks. Mrs Pearce had lived near Waterloo for the past 14 years
and since 1947 she had spent the winter months with her daughter and family in Elkhart, returning to her home for the summer.
The deceased was born in Wayne County on August 25, 1870, the daughter of the
late James and Martha Shanklin. She was united in marriage to John
Frances Pearson on April 5, 1888. Mr Pearson died in Troy, Indiana, November
9, 1913. On June 14 1921, the widow married Charles Pearce in Auburn.
Mr Pearce died in 1935 in Edgerton, Ohio. Five daughters and three sons
were born to Mr and Mrs Pearson. Three sons and one daughter preceded
their mother in death.
Surviving besides the daughter in Elkhart are three other daughters,
Mrs Flora Funk of Quincy, Michigan; Mrs Raymond Krontz of Waterloo
and Mrs Hiram Brooks of Stockwell, Indiana; 20 grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alec Shanklin of Fairmont, Nebraska
and Charles Shanklin of Jackson, Michigan, and one sister, Mrs Lewis
Snowberger of Detroit, Michigan. Sons Ernest, George and John Pearson
are deceased and Miss Nora Pearson, a daughter, also is dead.
The body was taken to the Westbrook funeral home at Elkhart for funeral preparations.
Prayer services will be conducted in the Westbrook chapel at 7:30 PM Tuesday with
the Rev Hartley, Pastor of the First Church of the Nazarene in Elkhart, officiating.
The body will then be brought to the First Church of the Nazarene in Butler,
of which she was a member, Wednesday morning and will lie in state until
1:30 PM Wednesday when funeral services will be held.
Burial will follow in Lost Creek Cemetery, near Ney, Ohio.
